Duel on Mustafar Review: I Underestimated it's Power!

Set Review: (2020) LEGO Star Wars 75269 Duel on Mustafar

Price $20.00 (US Retail) | 208 Pieces | 2 Minifigures (1 Exclusive Minifigure) |

November 11th, 2020

This set comes with two Minifigures, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both Minifigures are highly detailed with front and back torso/face printing along with leg printing.  attention to detail is most impressive since both Anakin and Obi-Wan have little burn marks scattered around their printed tunics to match up with the fiery environment.

Both Anakin and Obi-Wan are equipped with a blue lightsaber.

Fun Fact: Mustafar (the planet that this set takes place on) used to be a vibrant and lush planet!

Surprisingly WoW! I'm not gonna lie, I wasn’t expecting much to come out of a $20 playset, but after building it I was pleasantly surprised. not saying this set is perfect but it definitely impressed me. This set just really encourages cooperative play and I really dig it. from the moment you open the box and through the moment you complete the set, it feels like it's better with a friend.

Even though it's a relatively small $20 set, there are two separate bags labeled as such, bag 1 and 2. This two-bag system makes it very easy to pass the set over to a friend after finishing the first half of the build… but that’s not all, there’s also a fun cooperative play future!

It's a playset, it's gonna have features. The most prominent feature of this set would have to be it’s sliding-rail-battle-dual-function... t- that's the name I'm giving it. The sliding-rail-battle-dual-function allows you and (possibly) a friend to dual it out as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re supposed to fit Anakin and Obi-Wan on top of their respective platforms and slide them back and forth until one of them gets knocked off. Usually, Anakin falls off first since he’s placed with only one stud, which is a nice touch because it symbolizes how Anakin loses the fight in the film.

The other two play futures are the Shooting lava and the Falling platform.

Both of these play features are great and serve their function well, the platform tilts and falls and the lava represented by singular orange translucent studs shoot out via sliding 2 by 4 catapult. Even though the falling platform is a fun idea, the execution is inaccurate to the film and serves very little purpose or value to the set.  If instead this set Incorporated a rocky platform similar to the “High Ground” Obi-Wan defeats Anakin on, would have been a much more Logical addition… but I assume that the Lego Company thought the falling platform looked a lot more interesting

For $20, it's pretty accurate. All right, Hot Take, I think this set is more accurate than the 2005 Lightsaber Duel (set number 7257) and 2012 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor (set number 9494) sets combined!

I only say this for two reasons.

(1) The Minifigure selection is by far the most accurate depiction to date of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, putting the 2005 and 2012 sets to shame.

(2) The Mustafar mining platform and Mustafar mining droid might not be the correct brown color like that of the film, but the Detail and shaping work a lot more in line with the film compared to the 2012 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor (set number 9494) set.

Fun Fact: The famous duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan was created with the help of CGI, Sculpted miniatures, and real-life footage of Mount Etna.

Ok cool, but now it’s time for real talk. I'm gonna list the pros and cons.

I Love the accuracy and the Cooperative play features.

I Hate the inaccurate and unnecessary platform.

Tell them how you really feel. Overall, this was a fun, cooperatively themed playset,

and a successful representation of its source material.

I would say this set is worth your time and money if you’re looking for a fun and cheap playset.

3.5 out of 5

These are just my thoughts and opinions, what do you think?

Did you purchase this set? Why or why not? I’d love to know!
